Comet Neowise C/2020 F3

Comet Neowise – or to be exact  C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) photographed from Stubbington, Fareham, UK.

Until the sixteenth century, comets were usually considered bad omens of deaths of kings or noble men, or coming catastrophes. Take your pick from the current president of the USA, Brexit and Coronavirus.

More information on Comet Neowise can be found here

Blood Moon post

The comet will reach its closest distance from Earth on 23 July – though it will still be about 64 million miles (103 million km) away.

It will be visible in the northern hemisphere – including the UK – just before sunrise and after sunset.

From the middle of July onwards, the comet will be visible all through the night, but always low in the sky in a north direction.

It’ll then head out of sight as it travels deep into the solar system.

The setting sun silhouetting diggers and operatives working on Daedalus Common.

The Common is one of a number of community facilities provided to help soften the blow of having a large building housing high voltage transformers and associated cables on an active airfield.

More planned community facilities related to IFA2 include a heritage facility, play area and a gate guardian.

Plastic Pollution of our Beaches

Plastic Pollution

Please follow the link the the Surfers Against Sewage website to see how you can help reduce plastic waste.

The gallery below shows just some of the 5000 items of marine plastic pollution per mile of beach in the UK

This stuff is used for seconds and then ditched but never degrades.

Plastic pollution involves the accumulation of plastic products in the environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, or humans.

Plastics that act as pollutants are categorized into micro-, meso-, or macrodebris, based on size.

The prominence of plastic waste is correlated with plastics being inexpensive and durable This lends to high levels of plastics used by humans. However, it is slow to degrade.

Plastics can unfavourably affect lands, waterways and oceans. Living organisms, particularly marine animals, can also be affected through entanglement, direct ingestion of plastic waste, or through exposure to chemicals within plastics that cause interruptions in biological functions.

Humans are also affected by plastic pollution, such as through the disruption of the thyroid hormone axis or hormone levels.

Plastic reduction efforts have occurred in some areas in attempts to reduce plastic consumption and pollution and promote plastic recycling. Source Wikipedia

Stubbington Library Exhibition

Stubbington Library Exhibition June 2016

Just spent the the morning setting up my first exhibition in Stubbington Village Library.

How does it look? well why not  pop along to the library and see what you think!

Thank you to the staff and the library service for giving me the time and space to show these photographs.

Some time in 2013 just being curious I asked in the library if I could book the exhibition space. After thumbing through the calendar the  librarian said certainly, the earliest available spot is June 2016!

So this is the result of over 2 years of waiting and a little bit of planning, mostly in the last few months.

I hope you like it.
